Hello.

I have a Compaq Proliant 3000 running NT4 Server (SP4).
After selecting NT 4.0 Server from the list of operating systems to load (not selecting NT 4.0 Server VGA Mode), the server runs a load of hardware scans (e.g. Detecting System Component, Reading BIOS Update) finally stopping at a "Press any key to display hardware info" prompt. You than have to press any key about 12 times whilst it goes thru the specifics of each item of hardware that it found. (i.e. parallel port I/O settings etc).

I know you will all say to upgrade to SP6a, but are there any other ideas on how I can get it to stop these prompts?
I have upgraded the ROMPaq to the latest version, but I think that it is an NT issue as it happens when loading the OS.

Many thanks
Tony

Sounds like you have the "debug" version of ntdetect.com as described by the following....

"On x86-based computers, NTDetect detects installed hardware components at startup time and displays the hardware information structures passed to the kernel. If the standard version of Ntdetect.com fails to detect all the hardware you think it should find, you can use the debug version, which provides more diagnostic information, to help isolate the problem. Typically, a mouse or a disk controller is the component that causes problems. NTDetect displays information about the computer's system components, bus and adapter components, disk geometry, read-only memory (ROM) blocks, keyboard and communications (COM) port and parallel port components, mouse component, and floppy disk drive component. When detection is complete, you are prompted to press any key to display hardware information in the registry."

Also check out MS article 103659 for more info.

Hope this helps.
