hard drive recovery tool 2

is there any freeware HDD recovery software out there?

my friends hardrive seems to have deleted itself?!?!

all thats left is the trash can and a folder called "_restore" and in that folder there is a file called Srdiskid.dat

any help appreciated!

the drive has been split up into a bunch of files called LostFileChainXXXX, DriveFreeSpaceXXX and few other ones FAT1 FAT2 FileSlack FileSystemSlack.

i searched for jpegs and it found all the basic microsoft stuff (buttons, banners, etc) and a search for websites brought up a bunch of cookies and several hundred DLL files

do u know if it is possible with the demo version to search for specific file formats, for example word excel powerpoint pdf files etc?!?

im currently running GetDataBack however i think somehow maybe Forensic tool kit has modified the problem drive (GDB is reporting more than 2 HDD) time will tell though!

it worked(GDB), its recovered most of the data!

but i cant do anything with it unless i pay $69

is there any truely free recovery software that will maybe repair the FAT32 table so i dont have to bung all the data onto CD???

PCInspector (pci_filerecovery.exe) is free!!!!

it didnt find as many files as GDB but it will allow you to save what it does find!

ill keep everyone posted on what the other above mentioned programs are like! (ive come this far... i might as well try the rest)
