Thanks everyone for the past help with my computer you guys have been amazing...the catch is my hard drive is 1.7 gb but after I formated it, it's only reading out at 500mb? What the beep is going on? I fdisked the hard drive for the biggest format but it's still pumping out 500mb.....what can I do?

Sounds to me Like you might have a partion thais hiding on the HD . When you go, into fdisk check ,show all partions and see if it shows one if it does not try a low levil format to wipe the hard drive and restore it to factory new , a good tool for that is PowerMax from Maxtor , This is a small down load and put it on floppy to run real easy to use.
Hope this Helps

This is a symptom of an out of date BIOS. I haven't seen the other stuff you've been involved with, so there are some other possibilities, but that would be my first guess.
You can ususally load a drive overlay (probably free from the drive manufacturer) called disk manager that will reconstitiute the drive addressing to regain the full drive.
You might also want to do a google search for "drive limitations" to see what is causing this. Ed Fair

to edfair: does it matter what brand of drive manager you use i.e: IBM on a fujitsu?

Usually the software searches for a drive from the software provider so I would expect the IBM will upchuck on the fujitsu.
I bought the generic version a long time ago to avoid the multiple copies.
You might find a generic copy on e-bay if you can't find a version that will work with the fuji. Manufacturer is on-track systems (or at least it used to be).
And be aware that using it changes the cluster sizes so you end up with lost space from slack. (unusable space in clusters from storing files or parts of less than cluster length) Ed Fair
