Hello,

I have Windows Server 2003 installed on a Sata hard drive. I have an IDE hard drive on primary IDE cable and it's set to cable select ( I have tried master and slave). Windows sees the drive in the hardware manager, shows it as working proerply, but it doesn't allow me to see it in my computer. I d/ld a windows 98 boot disk, disconnected the sata, and I was able to see all the contents on the IDE harddrive with no problem using the dos prompt. Why won't windows server 2003 let me use the hard drive? It's a fat32 partition.

Thanks,
Ron

I figured this one out and decided to post the answer just in case anyone else runs into this.

Windows did see the hard drives but didn't mount them. I had to go the Disk Management section in the File Server Management application. Both of my two extenal drives were listed but did not have a drive letter. I assigned a drive letter and presto! Back in business.

Hope that helps,
Ron
