Ive been having trouble installing win2kpro on my machine. Got "inaccessable boot device" but created boot disks and attempted to use them. Got through to the last disk and blue screen "setup is starting windows 2000" appeared. After this i got an error message of "cannot locate any hard drives on your system" and i have been toiling with this for some time. Any help with this would be welcome. It is particularly alarming as I am studying for win2k certification exam and I cant even install the bloody thing on my own computer. lol

If you have a SCSI or ATA controller for your hard drive, you will have to load drivers for it during Windows Setup. When the blue/white text portion begins to load, it says Press F6 to load third party scsi/raid drivers (or something to that effect). Hit F6 at this point and either insert the disk that came with your controller/mainboard, or find the drivers online for that particular controller from the manufacturer's website. Marc Creviere

The previous post was very good advice. In my experience I
am always better off installing Win2kPro on my regular IDE
Channel and then after everything is installed and updated
I switch over to one of my Raid Channels after I have loaded
the Controller drivers.

I have installed Promise Ultra win2k controllers at setup to no avail and I am still getting error of "Setup cannot find any hard drives installed in your computer". The hard drive is 40 Gb 7200 rpm and I think is made by IBM. My mobo is Asus A7V133 with a VIA Apollo KT133A chipset (processor AMD Athlon 1200 MHz). I am beginning to think that this problem has no resolution. doh. Pound of grapes to anyone who gives advice leading to a successful installation!

is you hard drive showing in post? if so you might not have active partition..try to start from scratch.fdisk then boot from your cd.any boot disk will get you started with fdisk then change boot sequence...that's happend to me once, where i didn't set active partition,i don't know how i messed it up but i did and i couldn't find my hd
hope this helps

Note this is on my experience I have a similar board to you.

I would reboot using a normal win98 startup disk and run fdisk as ifix1 says. I would delete any partitions there.

And then reboot go into bios by hitting "delete" key. Next you will find options on how to boot select your CD drive to go before the harddrive. And put your win2kpro cd in the drive you selected at bios.

NB - Make sure you have a disk with a copy of the files from your ASUS CD in the promise controller directory you should copy so that you have txtsetup as the root of you floppy and you will have various folders including winme and win2000 netware...... on there as well. -

Now when you boot, as previously stated hit f6 when asked and put your disk in. Press 'S' for scsi and then select the win2000.... one. Then press enter.

You should be in a screen which says 39... Mbs unpartioned space. Partition it using the options then install it.

NB. This was off the top of my head so procedures may not be that accurate, but will be very similar.

PS do check that your harddisk is being recognised it should say what drive you have during POST. If it doesn't then attach it to primary IDE they are still 100ata I think.
