Hi,

I recently keep getting "hard drive full, need to delete files to free up space" message from the Windows XP. I checked the C drive and it still has 32 GB of space left out of 40 GB.

What is the cause of this bogus message ? How to remove it ?

Thanks,

Ching-Ho Cheng

It could be a temp file that is filling up your hard drive. You might want to look at DiskMon and FileMon from
James P. Cottingham

There's no place like 127.0.0.1.

Thanks for the suggestion. How could windows XP create a 32GB temp file at any given time ??

I will try the DiskMon and FileMon.

I had a user get the same message. It only happened when she had her camera attached to the computer. The system was reporting that the memory card was full and not the actual C: drive.

Thanks for the suggestion. But I have no camera nor other device attached to the PC. Could it be the printer ??

Your quota is not turned on is it?

Marc,

Thanks for you response. However, I am not quite gotten your meaning ...

Try removing your Swapfile, rebooting then re-enabling it, also check that it is not marked as read only.

Andy.

Andy,

Thanks for the suggestion, I will give it a try.

What type of format do you have on your C partition? Fat32 has a limit on a file size and will give the message you are alluding too if the file gets to the max limit. NTFS virtually has no limit on how big one file size can be. Just a thought for ya.

I need to check the partition. It could be FAT32. This is a new Dell PC.

Thanks,

Ching-Ho Cheng

Open Explorer (File Manager), right click C: - properties, see if there is a Quota Tab, if so, click it and see that it is disabled, or at least change the settings.

Marc,

Thanks, I will take a look when I get home this evening.

The partition is NTFS and the quota was disabled.

Any other suggestion ??

Thanks,

Ching-Ho Cheng

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Ok, I will give it a try.

Thanks,
