Hard drive and VM Settings

I am in the process of ordering a few CAD workstations and need some information on the best configuration for the hard drives as well as the VM.

The system will be used for CAD, no major 3D rendering right now but possibly some down the road.

Machines have (1) 160G SATA 7200 HD with 2G of RAM (2X1GB)

I am looking to partition the drive as follows:

C: = 60G
D: = 100G

C drive will be for the OS, Office, Adobe Acrobat etc.
D drive will be for the CAD applications

We run a couple different version of Autodesk products.

For good performace, how much of the VM should I allocate to each drive, C and D?

I recall the standard is usually 1.5X the physical memory, but with the two partitions what is a good amount to allocate to each.

Any recommendations is greatly appreciated.

Thank You

I wouldn't use another partition to install any programs on personally. I would normally install all programs on one partition & just use the other for data storage.
With regard to the VM 1.5x is the norm. I wouldn't be inclined to worry about what partition has what amount of VM. If it is on the same physical drive it makes no difference to performance. If your D: partition was a separate physical drive, I would allocate most of the VM to the partition with only a small amount on the C: drive.

Don't use partitions. They are useless these days. C and D are on the same hard drive, and I would like to strangle Dell for selling servers with small partition sizes.

If you go to the system properties and look at the pagefile, it will recommend a setting for you. You can always bump it up, but you should be fine with the settings that come with it.
