We have a G3V6r .03.3.246.1. I need to know if the hard drives are hot swapable and if I can put the drive into another switch we have if it will boot and come on line. We need to duplicate switch for a move with as little down time as possible.
If this is a simplex system, you are looking at downtime. You can not swap these hot. You have to power down the processor to do this. If this is a duplicated system let me know and I can help you get through this.

If you have a simplex system, then you will take it down when you remove the disk. If you have a duplex system, then you can remove one of them and the system still function. If the disk is replaced in the same in another sytem, you will load the translations from the first system and have the dupication disabled on the system that is working.

where do i look to find out if it is simplex or duplex. Also can you clearify this statement "If the disk is replaced in the same in another sytem, you will load the translations from the first system and have the dupication disabled on the system that is working. " I dont want to mess this up.
mikeasa. You really need to call in someone for this. If this is your butt on the line for both of these systems, call in an Avaya business partner or Avaya. If it were me I would just order the disk drive for the other one and replace it. You apparently have one system that is either very sick or completely down. You don't need two down.

I dont really need to if someone can just give me taht piece of info as to how can i determine if the system is simplex or duplex. I appriciate your advice but i have to weather this on my own and yes butts our in the grinder no the system is healthy its just i am trying to bring up a backup.
2 answers if you have a controls shelf in A and B, i.e. cpu tone boards, memory boards, hard drive and optical/tape drive in both shelves it is duplicated
2nd answer and card to the left of the MSS net board and not including the MSS net is hot removable, so in your case you can remove the hard drive and thhe optical drive with out problems
use the bust host-adapter A or B command first this will busy out the MSS net and allow the drives to be removed
Thank you sir for that. That clears up my mystery and yes I have an "A" & "B" duplicated so now I can move foward. I guess no one uderstood my question I do have a communication probelm.
In theory then I should be able to do a "sa tr both tape" and then put those tapes in the other switch and bring it up as long as DS1 boards and tone boards and any other board is laid out the same.
