HI, I have a pc with WINDOWS SERVER 2003 installed. That computer suffered a mayor electrical malfunction that toasted the power source, the motherboard and the processor; RAM and HD’s seam to work fine. BUT I have some information on the HD that I wanted to retrieve so I connected them to a computer with WINDOWS 2000. The disks didn’t show, and when I used administrative tools to see all disk connected, they were there all right… but WITHOUT PARTITION! How could this happen? What can I do to recover the data!

The disk seams to have to damaged sectors whatsoever.

My guess is that the partition information could very well have been lost in the electrical mishap. What you could try is some data recovery software that looks at the data, regardless of the partitions, file systems, etc. There are several out there. I know, b/c I've been tinkering with that lately, after I lost a file that I still cannot seem to recover! DOH! No hardware problems or anything on my end, just Operator Error - hate to admit it. [blush]

Here is one you could try that looks at the files, regardless of file system and partitions:
Easy Recovery Pro.

It seems to work pretty well, even though it didn't find the ONE file I'm trying to recover.

There are others out there as well, as I'm sure someone else can recommend, based on their experience.

I've also been tinkering with (just started yesterday) with a program called GetDataBack. It looks good, but I cannot say for 100% sure that it is.

Thanks, I will try that, I was just wondering if there was any kind of conflict between W2000 and W SERVER 2000 on the disk managing part, so if that could have ANYTHING to do with the partition lost I can void to do the same thing in the future.

ERRATA: Hi, in the last line I wrote:

"The disk seams to have to damaged sectors whatsoever"

I committed a typo and it should say:

"The disk seams to have NO damaged sectors whatsoever"

PD: Does this forum have an editing option? If so I don’t see it, please give me 5-year-old-like directions to find it, thanks :p.

No, no editing option unfortunately. There have been many times I wished it did. [blush]
