Greetings,

We are looking for a "Y" handset cord/adaptor for Nortel phones. We want to have two handsets on a single phone. The phone could be a single line analog phone, a 2008, a 2616, M3903, or M3904 deskset.

Here is our issue.

We have employees who meeting with Citizens who may not speak English and need an interpreter. The citizen could either be sitting with the employee at their desk or calling on the phone.

One scenario has the interpreter being called (either to another employee's desk or an Interpreting Service) utilizing the two handsets at the same time with the citizen on one handset and the employee on the other with both handsets active.

The second scenario just flips the citizen and the interpreter around.

Does anyone know if there is a "Y" cable that could connect two handsets to a deskset and could fit the different handset plug locations on the desksets described above..??

Our Support Vendor says they can sell us additional handsets but not the "Y cable and they will not make the "Y" cable for us.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

they make a translation set, built with 2 handsets and cradles.. i can get you the manf and model tomorrow. open a standard 2500, 4 leads on the handset, two white a black and a red.. connect the 2nd handset to the same spade lugs on the network card and it works.. another way to do that is add a analog set with the same dn as a digital scr.. then both parties can talk at the same time.. two analogs connected to the same tn will do the same thing.. i have a dn on 8 digital sets in our comm closets, i added one analog to the mix so we can dial 8811 and all the techs in any closet can all join the conservation.. doesn't matter which set is answered 1st.. the lamp is dark, pick up the handset and join the "party" line... BTW tell your vendor, you support them, they don't stay in business by not doing there job..

The M2216 or M3905 telephones have a superviser handset jack. But i'm not sure if the superviser can speak. Maybe just listen in. Never seen a y-adaptor that allows for anything more than listening. A telephone is engineered to supply juice to a single handset so don't know if a make-it-yourself model would work on a nortel digital phone. May have better luck with a good old 2500 set.

got to agree with the y connector, but analog or two digitals with an analog sharing the same dn, does the same thing..
