Group Policy snap in

New to network management. I recived an error in one of my severs which is "The Group Policy client-side extension Folder Redirection was passed flags (0) and returned a failure status code of (5)."

I followed the steps that MicroSoft gave me resolve the problem:

"1. Load the appropriate Group Policy from the domain.
2. Click User Configuration, click Windows Setting, and then click Folder Redirection.
3. Right-click the appropriate Folder Redirection component, and then click Properties.
4. Click the Basic setting in the Target tab, and then under Settings, click to clear the Grant the user exclusive rights to the folder name check box.
5. Save the settings, and then quit.
and it told me to change"

My question is in step 4 when I click the Basic setting in the Target tab and then click apply. It asked me to specify a path.

I do not know where to make the path.

If there is any help anybody could give me, that would be great.

what folder set are you trying to redirect? (application data, my documents....)

There are 4 folders within the "Folder Redirection" folder. How do I know which one to redirect. The Folders are Application Data, Desktop, My Documents, and Start Menu. This is the message I got:

"Failed to perform redirection of folder Programs. The new directories for the redirected folder could not be created. The folder is configured to be redirected to \\"Server Name"\ActiveDirectory\Start Menu\Programs\desktop Applications\Programs, the final expanded path was \\"Server Name"\ActiveDirectory\Start Menu\Programs\desktop Applications\Programs. The following error occurred:
Access is denied."

The "Access is denied" tells me that it is a security issue. Open up the security settings for the destination folder (\\servername\activedirectory\startmenu\programs\desktopapps\programs) and make sure that the "domain users" (or another security group that the user is a member of) group has permissions to create folders and that "creator/owner" has full controll. also give system, domain admins, and ent domain controllers full controll to avoid other problems.

if security is an issue then follow your security guidelines, this is just a recomendation.
