Morning!

I have a few (probably basic) questions regardig GPOs. Can someone help me out.

1) Why does my XP Client have more GP options than the W2K server we have? For example - my XP machine has more Windows Firewall options. Not sure why that is...

2) If I wanted to lock XP machines down so they could not install software of there own backs - is there a GP option I could use to do that. So - is that a option to disable users istalling new software?

Thanks for your help
Arran

On your xp client, install .net framework, download GMPC ( a gpo management tool).

-It explains all GPO policies and on which systems they apply.

there are more policies in XP/2003 cos MS have added more to these systems.
Seriously, best way to get your head round GPOs is to install GPMC on your XP machine, it is a damn fine cherry pie !

If you want the extra XP settings available so you can administer them on non-XP machines, then you need to download the updated 'adm' files.

And the updated adm files can be found from...?

Are they on the microsoft site?
