I'm trying to create a pie chart based on a formula field grouping but the 'group option' button on the chart expert is greyed out. Only the 'advanced option' button is active. My report contains agebands that I've summarized.

ageband formula = if ({@age}) <30 then "Age <30" else
if ({@age}) <40 then "Age 30-39" else
etc. etc. else "Not Specified"

I then created summary fields for the 'agebands' and placed them in the report footer with text headings.

I'd like to do a pie chart for these ageband groupings. Even if I group by ageband and try inserting the chart in the groupheader, it only gives me the 'advanced option' option.

It is greyed out generally because you don't have a group and inserted summary off a field.

Thanks so much!

how do I get the group? As I mentioned, I did group by ageband but I could not select it.

How can you group by something you could not select?

Anyway, you reference a formula within your formula, we don't know what is in there, and that's likely why it's failing.

So what's in {@age}?

It has to account for every row or you won't be able to use it elsewhere and then group by it.

You inserted a group on ageband, did you include an inserted summary not a manual summary.

Thanks so much!

Why not use the advanced chart option? You should be able to create the pie chart there. The age formula would be used as the "on change of" field.

[@age] formula is a Datediff formula converting birthdate to number.

When someone asks for the content of a formula, they mean please show the exact formula.

Again, why not use the advanced option?
