It is not a big issue, but I am wondering what needs to be done to allow me to select "group layout" when I create a Chart. It is grayed and I cannot choose it

...and I do have a group in my report

You need two things for a Group Chart:
1) a Group (you've taken care of this)
2) a Summarized field

If you don't have both, then you can't create a Group Chart, Youd need to use the Advanced chart.
In the Advanced Chart, the "Groups" are created internally to the chart.

OK
..I cannot have a summary field in my report...so I'm gonna use the Advanced chart, but I don't get the result I want

In the group footer section of my report, there is a field that I'd like to have in my chart. This field is getting its value from a shared variable and each time I want to create my chart, there is no value in it

If I create a chart for each group, then I have the good value in the chart, but I cannot have only one chart at the end...

Can the chart be created in the subreport from which you're getting the Shared Variable?
