In the process of Upgrading from a R6 to R10 one of the techs made a comment that why are we using Loop Start in our trunk groups. He said our Trunks should be set up with Ground start as we may get some call conflict by using Loop start. I had mentioned that we were having intermittent issues with Callmaster IV phones (once every few months) where two agents using would answer an ACD call and it would end up being Confreneced with the originating caller. He suggested the Loop start could be the cause. Has anybody else had problems with the loop start?

I have had the same problem. Ground start is the best way to go but seems like a pain to switch from loop to ground. I get my emplyees telling me that when they pick up the phone and dial 9 to get a line someone is there. Loop start is the reason. I need to make the switch but dread working all night to get it all done and tested...

Hackers can also hang on a LS line after a disconnect and sometimes grab an outbound trunk. It should not be that big of a deal to change it over. If you have more than a dozen or 2 lines you should be going to a T-1 anyway. If you do it, be careful of the polarity. LS works fine with the polarity reversed. GS only works in one driection if the polarity is reversed (I can't remember which way). -CL

A ground start will not work reversed. If you status alarms it will error everytime. To check a ground start connect your butset go off hook and tap the tip to ground to get dial tone. Paul
