I have a document which has two columns. The graphic is set to have text tight. I tried to lock the graphic to the paragraph but it seems to lock only in reference to the first column and not the second. I need to lock it to a paragraph that is in the second column.

Hi Judy,

If you have Horizontal "Absolute Position" relative (I just love MS terminology) to Column and Vertical "Absolute Position" relative to Paragraph it should be OK.

Can you post exactly what settings you have.

Enjoy,
Tony

It works fine in the first column but when I want to lock it to a paragraph in the second column, I have a problem. I have even tried unlocking the anchor and dragging the anchor to the second column but it will not go there.

My settings are:
Wrapping style is tight, Horizontal alignment is Other.
Under Advanced I have Horizontal absolute position of .03 to the right of the Column and Vertical as .07 below the paragraph. I have Move object with text on, Lock anchor on, Allow Overlap on and Layout in table cell on.

Hi Judy,

I can't see anything wrong with your settings and I can't duplicate your problem at all, I'm afraid.

I presume you know, but it's as well to be certain, that when you drag the anchor, it will only stay at the beginning of a paragraph.

I had a thought that might be worth a try. Can you change your picture to "In line with text"? That will bring it into the text layer of the document and you should then be able to move it to where you want it. When you've done that, changing it back to "Tight" will move it back to the drawing layer and should cause it to be anchored to the paragraph you have put it in.

Enjoy,
Tony

That worked. How weird. So, I changed it to inline with text. It still showed in the right place. Then I moved it just a little in the paragraph to be sure it was associated with the correct paragraph. I changed the wrapping style back to tight and then changed the location so that it was still at 0" above the paragraph. It still is indicating that is to the right of the column which means it is thinking about it being to the right of the first column instead of to the left of the second column but when I add or remove text above it, it stays with the text I need it to be next to.

Thanks.
