Graphic Card Problem

Hi

I have a Gigabyte GA-6VXE7+ motherboard and an intel 700mhz processor. I bought a new ATI Radeon 128mb SE graphics card but I am struggling hopelessly trying to get the darn thing installed. My O/S is Windows 2000.
Windows detects the video card but in the device manager after installing the driver an exclamation mark is shown. The Windows displays the following error :
"...not enough free resources, free up other devices..."

Can anyone please help ?

Sounds like a driver issue?

Maybe try the basics first, reinstall the latest Windows 2000 service pack, and also obtain and install the latest drivers for the card?

Sounds like the board don't get a free IRQ .
Temporary disable some other devices (not used in this profile) and see if it gets installed .
Remember to "allocate IRQ to VGA/AGP" in bios .

Did you start in Safe mode, uninstall the old video card's software in Add/Remove Programs, and remove all video cards from Device Manager before installing the new card?

the posts are good but rais onther question i have. what is the point of allocating irq to vga in the bios. some old tek i once new told me it was a wast of resources because the vga card never need to break into the cpu time so to speak. i always thought it was a wast of an irq and have never turned it one. its been a few years and i never had a problem with this setting. can you enlighted me on the subject as i have wondered about it for some time.
