The save location will change with user selection. I don't believe there is a way to force it. A search of my own registry shows that the value is not stored in the registry.
First off, you may have a virus. If you go do some searches on symantec for "noBrowserSaveAs" you will find many articles on symantec and google for viruses causing similar things.
As for what it does, I think its a registry change. The regstry key:
You should read about the viruses and also check your reg key for this. On my machine, the entire "Internet Explorer" registry key was not there, so you can do without it. I enabled a gpo for the disabling for the "save as" just to see it.
i dont have a virus. i have disabled the save key just now.
what i want to be able to do is set the location so that if i enable the ability to save files - that it defaults to h:\
i want this as i have tied the system down quite a bit and the profiles etc are volatile so if they defaulted to desktop or somewhere like that then they would lose it - i want them to save to a home drive
djtech, I am not following you on how that would help in the requested situation. Terry is looking to specify the location of the SaveAs, not disable it.
Well, I did kinda lose track of the original gaol a bit, so sorry for that. I was originally trying to find a storage mechanism to alter. Thats why I was looking into existing functional changes to the browser context menu.
I am confident that this can be changed in the registry, but I was hoping that my above posted note may help narrow it down a bit.
Now that I think about it, you may even be able to lookup some info on comdlg32. The common dialog is the normal menu stuff you seen when you click save in windows. I am not 100% sure if it applies to IE, but it may.
