How do I make it where a user can't share his or her printer on the network? I have some people that like to "share" their printer and I don't want them to do that. How can I make it where there's no way for them to do it? Thanks.

You have to start the Server service in the Control Panel, Services.

Once the Server service has been started you will have the Sharing tab (option) in the properties of the printer. New Zealand, a great place to live.

visualuser,

The answer from darrangl is close, but a little misleading. You actually need to STOP (and disable) the server service. This means, however, that ALL sharing from the machine is impossible, including C$, ADMIN$ and the printer stuff on IPC$. You may run into problems if you try to do any remote administration etc.

There may be tools or policy options to turn off only printer sharing, I honestly don't know. Win2K definitely lets you turn off print sharing and leave file sharing on.

Cheers,
Sam

I think that the question was only for Printer sharing. If it is on a seperate print server, then you can stop the printer sharing by doing what darranagl suggested. Your server services would however, be started by default.

It's a user sharing his printer. Besided yelling at him again, what can I do to lock his hp deskjet down from being shared on my network. Did I say the question wrong? Thanks.

You need to work with policy manager to absolutely stop him if he is really annoying play with policy manager and you can prevent him from doing anything he might like

You can deny them the ability to share folders/printers by giving them only User level access, rather than Power User or Administrator level access.
