Good morning all!

Problem:
Emails sent to extended addresses: user@company.com.au
seem to have a more difficult time connecting properly. I've noticed the NDR indicates A DNS issue and now I am a little confused as to what is happening.

The destination server for this recipient could not be found in Domain Name Service (DNS). Please verify the email address and retry. If that fails, contact your administrator. (5.4.0)

Is it a DNS issue from my side?
OR
Is it a DNS issue on the recipients side?

If it is my issue, how do I fix it?

TIA,
Wyz

To send an email the smtp service must first resolve domain.com into an IP adress. This is done using DNS. If their are no MX [mailer exchange]records in the dns server(s) that your email server is using the mail will NOT be delivered - simple as !!

To check if the DNS issue is yours or not, check the NDR you receive, it comes from the one that cannot deliver. If the answer is here, mark it, others can benefit from it too.

Thanks for the input. I traced the DNS issue to the recipient.

The funny part of this is I can ping the address only once in a while, and nslookup will display data and then 10 minutes later it can't find the domain again. I was under the impression that DNS was basically persistent until an update was pushed.

Thanks again,
Wyzard

Sounds like your destination recipient has a dynamic IP. If the answer is here, mark it, others can benefit from it too.
