Can anyone recommend a good book(s) for learing Linux?
Books that cover:

-Linux file hierarchy concepts/structure
-Shell prompt basics
-Kernel operation
-vi editor
-system administration
-scripting

I have bought a book or two that are real basic that just cover navigation and basic end-user stuff in Redhat. I've been looking online at a few books, but am unsure of their depth/quality.

All suggestions are welcome.

These are the books I started off with, many moons ago. IMHO there just what you need.

O'Reilly - Running Linux
O'Reilly - Linux Network Administrator's Guide

Can you see a pattern yet?

You can also pick up pocket references for Vi and the like. There also from O'Reilly. I also have:

O'Reilly - TCP/IP (the crab book)
O'Reilly - NFS and NIS

You cant go wrong (much) with O'Reilly. There printed in an easy to read font and can lie flat down. They also have the cool animals on the front. Again, AIMHO. :)

Two comments:

1) You SHOULD ALSO READ FROM , they exist to inform you!

2) Two more books that you should read!
Hacking Linux
and
the most current version from openna.com|.org on hacking linux.

Now I know those sound like more expert stuff, but I think you'll find that they both start at the "what does this thing do" level and then start to explain how crackers would try to break in... in the meanwhile the authors explain responsible use of your shiny new linux box.

Good luck!

Thank you gents for your suggestions; exactly the kind of info. I was looking for. I'm checking into the books/websites you suggested.
