Most people know about the Deathstar. Its supposed to be a Deckstar but its reputation gave it the name Deathstar.
And, if i recall correctly, Fujitsu made the drive for IBM anyway. I may not have the facts exactly correct. I also believe there are some bad 40 gig Deckstars as well. The problem is so bad that a lot of people just stay away from all Deckstars but i think the bad ones are only 30 and 40 gigs, not 100% sure on that though.
Either way, you can bet the people who sold you the drive, by this point in time, would have known about the Deathstar, almost everyone does.

On the other hand, i have a 20 gig Fujitsu that is still working fine.
Also, not 100% sure but i think IBM bought out Fujitsu hard drives and Fijitsu was making those hard drives for IBM at the time anyway.

It's Deskstar...no C. that said, not all drives that are labled deskstar were made by fujitsu, only 3 models of various sizes were affected. Ibm didn't buy Fujitsu...they (ibm) sold their hard drive company to Hitachi, retaining 30 percent, and still hold most of the patents. They share R&D with Hitachi, Hitachi makes and sells the drives.
I knew i was wrong somewhere there, thats why i said not 100% sure.
But i do know there was a problem with some 30 gig Fujitsu drives, that i know for sure. The reason is that i have always liked Fujitsu and Samsung hard drives. So i read quite a bit about the bad Fujitsu drives at the time, pretty sure they were 30 gigs.
And of course the IBM deathstars as well. But i do have a 40 gig IBM drive that works fine.
