Hi!
I'm new to SQL Server and I'm looking for a good book for SQL Server 2000. There seem to be dozens of 'em in the market and I'm confused. I don't want an idiot's guide, as I'm familiar with SQL and RDBMS in general, and I don't want a book that's too advanced. I've worked with databases in the past. I don't want a book that starts off on what's a database and what's a table etc. I want a book that assumes the reader has a preliminary background in databases and SQL and gets into the specifics of MS SQL Server 2000.
Thanks for your help,
Sashi

My current favorite for Transact-SQL in SQL Server 2000 is "The Guru’s Guide to Transact-SQL" by Ken Henderson. I like "Inside SQL Server 2000" by Kalen Delaney for an in depth look at SQL Server internals. Terry

I second Delaney's books. I also have SQL Server DBA Survival Guide. Unfortunately, I've not found any one book that answers the questions that pop up from time to time (but that's what Tek-Tips is for ;-) )

You might go to some of the bookseller sites and search on SQL Server, and read the user rankings and comments. I find that this helps me narrow down the purchase candidates. Robert Bradley
