Going to Learn PHP. . .Any Tips?

I've been usign CF for about 4 years now. really comfortable with it. I can make it do pretty much anything I need it to.

I might have to learn PHP for a new job. Are there any tips or things to do that might make it easier, coming from CF?

Anything that any of you have done that helped you learn it better?

Well, I got myself one win2k3 server with CFMX and mysql coming up...

darn.. now I have to back myself up and produce something usefull with it!

Way to go imstillatwork

I use to be all about PHP and mainly because I was new to web develepment and there was a ton of PHP applications that could be hacked to do what I needed. Then I got into coldfusion after moving up to Stratton Mountain. My main functions are not development, we have a great design firm helping us out. On the other side though, I've started writing my own apps and I can't believe how easy it is vs. PHP Yeah I'm still hacking applications more then not, but atleast I can read through the app like it's english. CF is butter!

Oh yes ....

I had to implement a search engine on a customer's site. Never done anything like it before.

From the time it took me to read Ben Forta's chapter on searching, to having a search engine AND scheduled indexer up and running; about two hours. I don't even want to think about how long it would have taken me to put that together in Java ...
