Just read about this on the net and thought I'd post it for those who haven't seen it yet, apologies if it's yesterday's news.

In Windows 7 and Vista 32 bit editions (don't try it on 64 bit, it can mess up Explorer) you can access a whole load of settings in one place by adding a new folder to your desktop and then renaming it to:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

This changes the icon from a folder, and when you double click on it brings up a window with loads of functions in one place.

You can name the folder anything!

thisworkstoo.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} will work too.

On a side note, how do people find things like this out? They can't possibly sit around randomly throwing GUIDs at folders. Does Microsoft publish things like this somewhere or is there someone who knows someone who knows a programmer at Microsoft? Any ideas?

If you choose to battle wits with the witless be prepared to lose.

[cheers]

If you're a Stargate fan you should name it "Goa'uld Mode".

Foada - I think this one was originally published by a MS developer.

The "All Tasks" page can be accessed via creating a Shortcut or using the Start Run box. I have been accessing it on 64-bit versions without any problems.

C:Windows\explorer.exe shell:::{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} shortcut Wizard

C:\Windows\explorer.exe shell:::{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} run box

You can also access it by typing "All Tasks" in the Start Menu Search box.

CNET has reported that there a several versions of "GodMode." Apparently, this is amusing to MS.

These are documented on MSDN. Although you need a membership to get access to these resources. IIRC stuff like this goes back to Windows 2000.

Here are some more modes you can use, too. Some work in Vista, too.

If there's a GUID for the dumbest mode you can imagine, you could call it MasterRackerMode
