gnome not responding after bootup

ok, so here is a strange problem that happens from time to time after i log in.
so after gnome starts up, suppose i click on firefox or terminal or IM or whatever other app, the cursor shows busy for few seconds and then nothing happens.
if i continue to click on other progrmas, still nothing happens.
any ideas? Its frustrating b/c my current soln is to log out and log back in, but it used to work quite fine.

so any thoughts as to why gnome is not responding after i click to start programs?

i am using fc3.

Try running the program from a commandline. That way you can see any error messages being output. Might give a hint to what's going wrong.
