I have a global template in folder c:\templates\g.dot and other templates based on it. When I create a new document based on one of these templates, the message "Global template c:\templates\g.dot" shows up. I also set the Startup file to this path, but obtained the same result.

Does anyone know what is happening ?

Also, I cannot see the VBA code contained in g.dot. Error "Project is unviewable"

Hi ionutdinulescu,

What makes a template 'global' is its being in a Word startup folder and, thus, being opened as global when Word starts. Whether or not it is opened as global, a template is still a template and documents can be based on it. Templates are not based on other templates (although they can have references to them).

When a template is opened as global it is opened for use but not for editing - hence the "Project is unviewable" message. If you right click on the template and Open it, you can then edit it.

I think that just leaves your message. I don't recognise this as being a Word message. Is there any chance the template itself issues it?

Enjoy,
Tony
