intially we are having 2 domain controllers for the same domain xxx.com, one i formated and installed another domain xxy.com, unfortunatly the system that is formated is PDC,till now every thing is working fine, recently i tried to create one user,

error: unable to contact the global catalog server, so i try to make it a standalone server, which is showing the error. what i have to do to make it as BDC for the existing PDC

Your post is hard to follow, so I'll try to help. First, there are no PDC's and BDC's in a W2K environment, there are only DC's. Certain DC's handle certain FSMO and other roles.

The first server that you dcpromo in a domain will automatically handle all of the FSMO roles as well as be a GC. If you need to designate another GC, you do this via Sites and Services in AD.

To add another server as a DC, just dcpromo it into the domain and then assign any additional roles you want the second DC to handle, such as being a GC.
