Hi Guys! I haven't needed your expertise for a while, but now I am really screwed, me thinks!

I had to replace my mobo last christmas, so I bought the GA-7S748-L Mobo/cpu (amd, 2400) combo from mwave. It has worked just great until this morning. Last night, I had unplugged everything because of a severe thunderstorm. Turned it on this morning, and it boots, one beep, then it says "Press del to enter bios/or F9 for XPress recovery. Keyboard doesn't seem to be working. I have an usb keyboard at work that I am going to try tonight. I've tried bios upgrade, XP boot disk, the cd that came with the mobo. I took out the battery for about 10 mins. no help.

I am totally stumped on this one. Any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated! (as always!!):-D

If the BIOS has the option for "Legacy USB", "USB Keyboard", or similar enabled, then the USB KB should work during startup, assuming that the MB did not get fried by the storm.

If the USB KB does not work, then try a different PS/2 KB.

If that does not work either, then the MB may have been damaged.

I was hoping you wouldn't say that! I was on the internet when it started, and I thought I'd better go and start unplugging computers (I was working on 2 others at the time) and when I came back I had been kicked off the internet. I didn't notice any flashing of the electricity, so was hoping that wasn't the case.

I tried a different keyboard, so I'm hoping (with fingers crossed) that it will recognize the usb one.

Even tho I didn't want to hear that I am now out $130, I do appreciate your reply! Thank you so much!

What exactly did you unplug?? I know when there's bad electrical storms around here, I just turn my computer off, but leave everything plugged in. I always leave the power cord in, because that way it's still properly grounded in case something happens.

I have my plugs into a fairly good power strip, then into a multi-plug that goes onto the main plug. So I unplugged the multi-plug thing (after shutting off the pc and shutting off the power strip) and the phone cord from the wall. Working here at the ISP I have seen too many fried computers. We're located on the Pamlico Sound and the thunderstorms can be pretty bad at times. Bad Phone lines and electrical surges are common.

It is imperative that a critical electrical device be disconnected from its circuit during an electrical storm in order to prevent damage.

The usb keyboard didn't work. I have the battery out now, going to leave it out about 45 mins and see if that helps. If not, I guess it's new motherboard time again! No more gigabytes for me, that's the 2nd one!

It's not booting to the bios at all, I guess, so that's why it doesn't recognize the keyboard, cdrom or floppy drive.

My boss suggested a bad harddrive? Any thoughts on that? I will put in another to test it also.

Ski, I agree with you on the unplugging during storms. I guess one of my next investments will be a ups!!

WELL...I can't believe it! my husband came in and says "let me look at it! Well, I just laughed b/c he doesn't know much of anything about computers. But within 5 minutes he came in the living room and said it was fixed! I couldn't believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He said he shut it down, turned it off in the back, then turned it back on and voila!!!!!!!!!

But, my usb mouse was acting up, then my keyboard. switched keyboards and then finally I took the extension on the keyboard off and I think that was messing up.

Wow! Thanks again for everyone's for input. I love this forum! [2thumbsup]
