Hello,

I have a machine here, it's equipped as follows:

GA-5AX F3
AMD-K6(tm)-2/500 cpu
524288K ram (one chip in slot 0)
BIOS v4.51PG
11/16/1999-ALADDIN5-2A5KKG09C-00

I just put the new ram in it, and a new HDD (old one was dead) - When I boot the computer now it checks the ram - then does nothing. It won't allow me to "Hit DEL to edit BIOS", it just ends the test and hangs. I have tried 2 keyboards on it, including the one I type this message with so I know it's a good keyboard, but still nothing.

It's not checking for the a: drive to boot, or the hard drive and I can't default the BIOS to use my XP boot disks, the BIOS upgrade disk or anything. I went to giga-byte.com to check for instructions on clearing the BIOS but the PDF manual there wasn't helpful...

so here I am )

Any suggestions are appreciated!!!

Thats a socket 7 mobo. The max ram per slot is probably PC100 128mb.

Since you just instlled new hardware I'd start there! First disconnect the new hard drive see if you can get into the bios, check things out and then try booting off a floppy. If you still can't access the bios or floppy take out you new ram and re-insert the old ram! Try again to access the bios and/or boot from a floppy.

This is only a starting point...let us know what the results are!

Cheers

My knowledge maybe limited...usually just enough to get me into trouble. Who knows, it may help...even if it's misguided!

I forgot to check back, I changed the ram with some PC/66 instead of the PC/133 and it was all good )
