Giant PST/Outlook 2002 Problem

Hi friends,

Had an installation of Outlook XP (2002) on XPP.

The PST to which the user archives his older emails is right around 1.6GB. I had heard there is a max size for a PST, but it's around 2GB.

It's "disappeared" a coupla times. He just points to it in File etc and it comes back.

The other day it disappeared and I deduce that it was overwritten, as he reports that the biggest .pst remaining is miniscule. I have not had a chance to look myself.

We still have the large PST on the tape.

1) Is there some way to test/repair the integrity of a .pst?
2) What's the best way to split up the large PST so that Outlook has a file it can handle a lot better?
3) What would you do in this case?
4) I should have him move off that decrepit, large PST ASAP, right???

2: In Outlook, File - New - Outlook Data File and move items over.
3: CLEAN!

After splitting, don't forget to compress the PST to make it shrink

Let me parade my ignorance.

If I split the file up, how does one configure Outlook so that it can look at multiple .psts simultaneously?

In other words, we'd want a:

2003
2002

etc.

This user likes to see ALL of his email from ALL TIME.

The same way, File Open - Outlook data file.
It will open every time until you really close it.
