Getting xp pro added to a domain

Having problems getting an xp pro laptop domain. The server is 2000 sp3 I go through the network id wizard and fill in all the information and it says doesn't see computer name on domain. When I go to the server it is there. When I continue on with the wizard it says to added it and use a login that has rights. I use the admin login and then added the user with the his password.

Are you using the domain administrator account or the laptop administrator account?

Login using the general administrator account for the network. Then I tried to use the users account and the administrators when adding.
