Getting through the MCSA 2000 - advice needed!! 2

If you don't have prior experience you're really going to have to build yourself a mini network to test stuff out on. It's difficult to get the depth of knowledge (and retain it) if you just have books for reference.
I'd also start with the 270 exam (Win XP) as it requires the least practical experience IMO (and you probably already have some). It will also give you an idea of the questions MS as (although you should also use self testing software as preparation e.g. Transcenders or Self-Test). Don't be disheartened if you fail the first one, lots do - it's as much trying to figure out the questions as knowing the answers.

Hi there, why are you starting MSCA 2000 why not 2003??
Get the official Microsoft books, read them, remember them. All the information you need is there, but you should also setup your own little network because you have no experience it will help you understand exactly what the books are talking about.

I'm doing the MCSA 2000 as it's part of the package offered by the IT training company I'm training with. The package also includes the MCDBA, C# and .NET training. It's quite frustrating as it the job that the company gets you after completion of the course is on the development side (C#,.NET)of the industry rather than on the administerive side. Unfortunatly they require you to have it. This is really the reason I want to get through the MCSA in the quickest amount of time possible so I can move on to the next section of the course.

I recommend getting older MCSE 2000 books (probably available at used bookstores or on Amazon for under $5.00 each including S&H if you're in the US).
70-218 is sort of a compendium of the core four (70-210, 70-215, 70-216, 70-217). Sort of a "capstone" test...

older PCs like 133MHz CPU and 128MB RAM are enough for W2K training lab and can be had for less than $50 each, including monitor...
PCs with 500MHz and 256MB RAM are about double that and enough for Win XP and Server 2003...
Setnaffa is an MCP-W2K (working on MCSE-W2K) with a few other certs, too...
