Hi,

I've been dropped into a role that requires me to admin the FW, i have very little experience in this and wondered if it was possible to change/alter the setup so i can use the dashboard from my computer instead of having to Remote Desktop to a specific server then connect that way...

Many thanks

D.

Yes, that's possible. You have to define what remote clients can connect to the management server using cpconfig (how you do this depends on the platform). You can then install Smart Dashboard on a remote PC and connect to the management server for remote security policy management.

I would recommend this book ...

Hi,

Its a windows based network. So if anyone could explain what I need to do that would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

D.

The "network" doesn't matter. It's the platform for the management server that matters. Presuming a Windows 2000 management server, under Firewall-1 (or Checkpoint, It's been a while since I used Firewall-1 on Windows) in your programs list you are looking for an application called cpconfig. This allows you to define admin users and IP addresses that the server will accept management connections from.

Hi,

I'm not sure if you figured it out.

But on the Windows 2K server that you have the firewall installed on. Go to the checkpoint configuration Tool (start\program\checkpoint configuration)
Click on Administrators - Add your name and Password. Make yourself manage administrator.
Then click on Gui Clients - Add the IP address of the remote workstation (workstation that you want to connect from)
Load the Dashboard on the workstation that you want to connect from.
Then run the dashboard - You will then need to sign.

Any problems let me know, hopefully you already figured it out.

Hi Tonkytone,

Many thanks for instructions. I had figured it out but hadn't had time to post saying I had.

Thank you for your time, i've copied your solution for further reference.
