I've re-installed Legato Networker 6.2 on a Windows 2000 Server. I am having problems getting it to successfully detect and configure our ADIC Scalar 100 jukebox. The log reads:

(info) Found new Standard SCSI Jukebox ADIC@2.0.0. (<ADIC Scalar 100 2.73 at SCSI Port 2 Target 0 LUN 0>)

(warning) Can't create new Standard SCSI Jukebox scsidev@2.0.0: Input/output error

Are you using the auto-detect feature? I have not tested it for years - it obviously does not work reliably. Try to use "inquire" and "jbconfig" as usual.

However, the error could also mean that this program/user for whatever reason is not allowed to write the new resource file or that the filesystem is defective.

Thanks for the info. I've verfied file permissions. Results of jbconfig and inquire pasted below.

Unfortunately, I'm moving into territory that I haven't had much experience with. Any chance this is some kind of SCSI connectivity issue - or maybe the driver for the tape drive itself? And what do the numbers after the scsidev@ (2.0.0) - is that the scsi bus, scsi id, etc?
Thanks again for your patience.

jbconfig produces:

"There appears to be something incorrect about your driver
installation. Please consult your driver documentation
to help you troubleshoot your installation."

inquire produces:
scsidev@0.0.0:COMPAQ CD-224E 9.0B|CD-ROM
scsidev@2.0.0:ADIC Scalar 100 2.73|Autochanger (Jukebox), \\.\CdRom0
scsidev@2.1.0:QUANTUM SuperDLT1 2525|Tape, \\.\Tape0
scsidev@3.0.0:Compaq Disk Array 1.02|Disk, \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE0
scsidev@3.1.0:Compaq Disk Array 1.02|Disk, \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE1
scsidev@4.0.0:COMPAQ SCSI COMMUNICATEDA02|Unknown Device Type

This is the problem - Windows assigns the autochanger to a CD-ROM drive !!!!!

This is most likely because you still have enabled the Removable Storage (Manager) service. DISABLE IT, please !!!

Thanks for seeing that. Unfortunately it didn't seem to change the results of "inquire" or "jbconfig". I stopped and disabled the Removable Storage service, rebooted. Didn't work, so I even went in to Windows 2000 Device Manager, removed the "Medium Changer" device and let it redetect on another reboot. Still no change.

I'll do some more research - if you have any other suggestions, let me know. If the problems turns out to be the autochanger/CDROM confusion, you've got me pointed in the right direction. Thanks again.

Hi,

Disable the CD Rom drive , I know there have been some problems with jukeboxes when legato sees a cdrom at scsidev@0.0.0.

Not the ideal solution, but I wouldn't imagine you use the cdrom for that much to be honest if this is simply a backup server.

good luck
