I have Solaris 8 (intel ver) on my pc at home. I have a Compaq NC3121 Fast Ethernet NIC and optimum online (cable). I was wondering if anyone had instructions on the process of getting this pc on the internet. I pretty good at networking with windows and have a windows pc on the internet with no problem but I'm new to Unix and really don't the networking process.

Please help, any info you have would be much appreciated
thanks in advance

Well first you will need to do the following:

cp /etc/nsswitch.dns /etc/nsswitch.conf

then

vi /etc/resolv.conf and add the following:
NAMESERVER
IP Address of your ISP DNS SERVER or your home DNS server

then

vi /etc/defaultrouter and add the following:
IP Address of Gateway

The resolv.conf and defaultrouter files do not exist, this is why I have you vi then file to create it then hit the esc key and then :wq to save the file.

Hope this helps!
