Hi
first my disclaimer- im 22 female college graduate- not a professional (not yet at least)
just started teaching myself to use QuarkXPress (I have version 4.1) running in windowsXP Professional
I am starting my own boating magazine

so hopefully you guys will be nice to me and help me get started here
ive got the page layout, the master page and the basics set up including page numbers

now I printed out one of my pages to see if I liked it.
I set up a 1pt black box on the perimeter of the page - about 1/8th of an inch from the edge-to frame text and maintain reader attention-the top and both vertical sides print out just fine but the bottom line wont print- regardless of what I do with the guide lines

can you suggest what I should do to make this line print?
also- I placed tha magazine name and page number at the bottom right of the page and that won't print either. Any help would be appreciated.

last question for today- I am having a hard time importing a pdf image file from A.Reader into Quark- instead of showing the image it just gives me the little pdf icon with the name of the file.(to import it I create a picture box .1 larger than the page -the ad is going to be a full page bleed-'Edit' - 'Insert Object' and then find the file and all it gives me is the pdf document.)

Thanks for taking the time.

Problem 1:
Select either your text frame which holds the Folio then go to Item-Modify in that window I think it is under the box section (it is for macs) make sure suppress printout has been checked off. If it was on you will have to do it to the folios on the master pages.
Do it also for the stroke.

Problem 2:
You need an extension called PDF Filter to be able to import PDFs into a picture box.
(which is File-Get picture, not edit-insert object).

Let me know how you go...

Marcus

Sounds as if your printers image area is not big enough. Try printing on an 11x17 page to see if problem still exists.

thanks for taking the time
I checked the masters and each page and the "supress printout" was already off on all of them
I printed on a regular 8.5"x11" page and on a legal size page and basically everything in the bottom 1inch of the page will not print

is there anything else that might be causing this?

Where can I get that PDF filter you mentioned MarcusStringer?

thank you for helping me

Can you determine whether the items that don't print are the problem, or the position they are in is the problem?

Try placing those items in the middle of the page. Do they print then?

The bottom border line and the page number and title printed perfectly when i moved them to the middle of the page

i also tried moving text to the bottom 1" of the page and it didnt print

so I am guessing that there is a setting somewhere blocking the bottom inch from printing- is that possible?

Check your page orientation.
You might be printing to a landscape (as opposed ot portrait) format. Thus the bottom of your page is off the paper.

Also check to see if you have tiling turned on.

There is no setting in Quark to not print the bottom of the page.

It is more than likely a page setup/printer driver problem.

inkjet printers require a larger space at bottom of page for the gripper.

You might try printing with the 'shrink to fit page' option checked if it is a printer necessity.

first I want to say thank you to everyone who helped - you are great
don't worry I will be calling on your expertise again soon

I'm sorry I didnt update sooner but I was gone to trade shows.
Anyway, I could only find the PDF filter for MAC couldnt find the MS OS version- still looking
as far as the printer
its determined that it is the printer setting - it has an 11mm border at the bottom- I still don't understand however why this happens only in Quark, as in Corel, Word, Adobe etc this border doesnt exist. Important thing is that at the printers it will print out just fine

Marcus- I went to the site you gave me and I got error messages whenever I tried to start printing- dont know why

thanks again for all the help
I'll be back soon to seek your help again I'm sure

Thank you
