I have an access database which i can access to get column names.

but i need to get the datatype of each field to evaluate what kind of data it will accept.

any ideas?

cbushy:

I take it from you referencing table fields as 'column names', that you do not come from a programming background?

No problem, but more information as to why or what you want to accomplish would greatly be appreciated.

But I believe I know why you want this information and if it is for data validation, i.e. making sure that user input is of valid type, then Javascript is the way to go.

Let me know if this helps or if you need further assistance...

The other thing you'll need to watch out for is the a lot of Access datatypes aren't actually stored as the datatype you expect.

Some of simply "pseudo" datatypes that Access understands... but when ODBC looks at the data, they come out as something else. Hope it helps,

The project is a personal a web based SQL builder.

It reads my registry, for all my access odbc objects.
you once you have selected a database.

It returns a list of Tables and the subsequent fields.

Then by clicking on fields a JavaScript builds and renders various SQL statements.

All i want is to do is identify if a field is a NUMBER or TRUE/FALSE. but im not sure now the MYSYSOBJ table stores that information (if at all)
To make a complete and flexible tool.

any ideas would be greatly appriecated
