Hi,

Can anybody tell me how I can poll some basic usuage data from the command line.

I have a customer who wants me to go along with a copy of wireshark and tell them whats going on on their lan.

I think they also want to know how the switch is being utilised.

Are there any commands I can run that will give me something along these lines other than using netflow and the likes.

Thanks

You can use "show interface counters " for actual packet counters . for actual port utilizations use "show controllers utilization " for individual port utilization percentages.

Those commands were for a 3550 switch , if you are talking ancient 3524Xl or something like that then those won't work.

I'll give those a go.

thanks for your help guys ...

(Just found out its actually a 2900)

PS. Unfortunmately I dont have CW on my laptop.

If its a 2950 then "show controllers utilization" will give you individual port utilization for that particular moment. You can clear the counters and then look at the below commands and it will give you a pretty good idea on how much traffic the port are generating .

show interfaces counters errors
show interface counters trunk
show interface counters
