Can anyone tell me how I can get a full backup of our exchange server to use with our disaster recover option.

I know when using the Client agent for the server I can just click on block next to server name on the backup screen to select all drives but I do not want the "M" drive being backed up and do not want to do a Brick Level backup. When I deselect on those two, ARCserve does not do a full backup and create Disaster recover data for this server.

How can I get ARCserve to do a full backup so it creates Disaster Recovery information.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Exclude the M drive using the filter option...

In the backup job Right click on the server and choose filter...

and add the following in the filter ....

Exclude Directory pattern M:\*.*
Exclude File pattern M:\*.*

By desing arcserve will not backup the brick level if you select the whole server including the IS.

This will exclude the M drive and you will have a full backup.

DatabaseBaba,

Thanks for your reply. I have a question about when selecting the whole exchange server to be backed up you said it won't back up brick level. Sorry I do not understand what you mean here. Cause I'm thinking if I select the whole exchange server to be backed up, it's going to back up everything under the requested server

Trying to learn my way around ARCserve2000.

Thanks for your help.

Whenever you select whole exchange server including MS information store and brick level then by desgin arcserve won't backup the bricklevel. It will backup all drives registry systemstate and information store. It will skip the bricklevel.
Since we have a backup of the Microsoft IS you can bring back the exchange in case of disaster to the same state..

Hope you understand now.

Any clarifications lemme now... DatabaseBaba...
