I have report files (frx and frt files) that I can run, but I need to get the data out so I can export it and work with it in another app. If I could get the actual query being used, that would be great. But even if I could get the report into a .csv file or something, that would be ok. Is there any way to do this? I don't have VFP... would that help?

First, back them up.

Rename to dbf and dbt and see if you can access them with odbc.

Mike

Thanks - I haven't tried that yet. I now have access to VFP so I can open the actual frx file in the designer. Is the query it uses saved in there somewhere? I can't seem to find it. Thanks again for your help.

Not necessarily, but since you mention only .frx and .frt that you have and run, it probably is. In the Report Designer, check menu View -> Data Environment.

After thinking about it, I think I was confused as to what you needed. Do you have the whole project, or just the frx frt? Check the DE as Stella recommended. That should get you pointed in the right direction.

Mike

Thanks again. Unfortunately I only have the frx frt files, and it appears that these are unbound reports (the DE is empty). I shall have to track down the source code, right?

Hi

If your intention is to export the report generated data then probably use the command..

REPORT FORM myReportFoem TO FILE myTextFile.txt ASCII
Then myTextFile.txt will have the report content which you can open thru excel or whatever you feel comfortable.

However, if you understand the report fields included in the report and the tables involved, you can make an SQL select of all the fields in the report and save that as a table for export to your required format.

:)

dragonwell,

You said you can run them? I understood it as you can actually make them work and show data? Which means that you at the least have real data anywhere around in database or separate tables?

If you have only .frx and .frt files with empty DE, those contain only structure of the report, possibly some minimal calculations, data grouping, etc.

If the data is actually present, you can try to get it using ramani's suggestions first. Come back if you have more questions.
