Hi All,

I am setting up a barcode scanner on a win95 machine. I need to use the Generic/Text print driver, but it is not available on this win95 machine.

Can anyone tell me where to download this driver?

TIA for any help.

I believe you have to go to Start, Settings, Printers, Add New Printer, and pick the Generic/Text Only from the list. You may need the Win95 CD is the .cab files are not in C:\Windows\Options\Cabs.

I tried to go to start, settings, Printers, Add new Printer.
But for some reason it does not give me the choice of Generic/Text driver?

I checked and all the cab files are in C:\Windows\Options\Cabs

This is really strange.. mot98

Again, I have double checked everything and can't seem to find the Generic/Text print driver for this win95 machine.

For some reason, whenever I go to install a new printer, it only gives me drivers for my SATO barcode printer...it does not show me a manufacturers list like it normally does.

Has anyone seen this before??

I really neeed to get this up and running, and re-installing is not an option.

Thanks,

Two great places for drivers are Driverpit.com and Driverguide.com. Has been extremely helpful to me, Good Luck :)

The problem is that when I click on the "Add Printer" icon, then no manufacturers list comes up.

Therefore I cannot choose the Generic/Text driver.

Is there a way for me to reset this wizard so that it displays the full manufacturers list? Or can I at least re-copy over the file it uses to build this list?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Have you tried an Add New Hardware search? Sometimes this lets you choose better than adding a printer, especially if it's not exactly a printer but on the LPT port.

The printer is installed fine. However the barcode application that we use on this barcode printer, will only work with the Generic/Text driver.

Usually when you click on change driver, it will bring up the "Manufacturers list" and you can then choose the Generic one. But this list is not coming up.....

I would copy the install files again. Suspect you are missing something from the install set. Ed Fair

Hey edfair,

all of the install files? By running the install again, am I not going to lose any of the applications. I cannot afford a re-install and loss of anything on this box...

Thanks,

Not reinstall. Just put everything from the cd\win95 directory on the cabs directory.

Your'e not installing on something special like PB, Compaq, or HP are you? Sometimes they left stuff off. Ed Fair
