Our main office is in US. We have 4 satellite offices in Europe. (UK, France, Germany & Austria). Our company would like to have a VoIP solution installed in Europe as well.

My question is:
Is it possible to install an IPOffice in one of those offices, connect them to us with high speed connection (point to point VPN)& issue out VPN phones to the individuals in the remaining countries? Are European DIDs particular to each countries or could they also in other European countries. (i.e. if a DID is issued in UK, would it possibly work as a local # in France or Germany)?
If it is possible, which telecom company would you recommend to obtain DIDs from?

Thanks.

ddis wont work across different countries. they can only be presented to the circuit they are assigned to, then the system that houses the ddis can do whatever with them.

if the the vpn phones were registered back to the uk pbx then you could assign uk ddis to those phones. the only problem with that would be explaining to a client in germany why he has to make an international call to reach his rep or whatever who is just down the road.

so to answer your question, no, ddis cant be shared across europe. depending on the numbers, it would be better to have a pbx in each country, with its own lines.

Thanks. That makes perfect sense. I was hoping against hope since the Euro was accepted across the borders, then may be that change had also permeated other arenas :)

where do you get a DID that works everywhere in North America. If you have a New York city number and you move to Alabama you get a new area code and number and the only way to keep the number is to forward and pay both sides. It is the same way in Europe, actually worse because you have different countries to deal with.
You could try to have something like that working with SIP lines but who would like to call a France number from Germany or the UK to talk to a local person. You will have to deal with each site individually for local lines and then network them together for inter-system dialing and if you want you can also setup a dial route so that the European systems dial out of the US system to dial US numbers, but that means you are using the VPN connection and that can have sometimes quality issues and it is advisable to setup a separate route so that they can access dialout form their local lines as well.

haha, unfortunately not. BT have a monopoly on the uk at least :)

how many users are at the sattelite sites? there will be a reasonable way to get this working the way you want.
