General question regarding 2000i

It's just a patch level. Pervasive.SQL 2000 was the original release, SP1, and SP2a. Pervasive.SQL 2000i is SP3 and SP4.
I would recommend using SP4 (plus hotfixes) if you've got to stay with the 2000/2000i version. If you call Pervasive for support, 2000 is unsupported while 2000i is in transition support which means no free support, no fixes, and limited research into problems. Pervasive.SQL V8 is the current product.
