Hi! Very odd situation, never encountered this one, so looking for all the help I can get. Here are the facts:
-Gigabyte 71XE mobo
-256 MB SD RAM
-AMD Athlon Slot A 850
-machine runs just fine, HOWEVER, during usage, the machine will beep like crazy, not at the post, but seems to beep just after W98 splash screen and randomly during use, sometimes continuous. Hi/Low, mix of both, just contstant most of the time.
-Ran a UXD test (great stuff!) and it did come up with an SM Bus register host fialure (not sure to be honest, any insight on that?)

I'm in the process of trying all from just the basics (video card only deal) then adding. Will also research for BIOS flash updates, but still wanted to post this one and see if there is anyone with knowledge of this. Thanks in advance!

Don't know about the bus issue, but the alternating hi/lo is a cpu overheating warning, check that the heatsink is on right, make sure it is level, and use a good thermal paste. Also your temp might be fine, check system bios for a health reading of temp. The alarm might be set too low. You should be able to adjust this level,or disable the alarm, but that is not recomended.

Hi Rich! That was my concern too, but the cpu is running at a normal 109 degrees. However, after stripping all but the video card (and still got the beeps), I replaced the video card and that did it. Was a PCI in there, put in an AGP card and all is running fine. Sounds like a gpu problem. Thanks for your time and efforts!
