Can I install a ATX motherboard from another manufacturer into a Gateway Computer? What about the power supply? Ok to use the Gateway PS or change to an ATX PS? Thanks.

The PS will work fine if it has enough power for the new board as old gateways are usually 200 watt you may want to upgrade to a 300,350 or even a 400...also keep in mind that your gateway restore cd's may not work with the new board also

And there may be some differences with the cabling for the offboard connectors. Nothing that can't be overcome.

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

I even cut the side out of a desktop Gateway 2k and installed the mobo sideways (because of the smaller original power supply being replaced by a larger one)!
Anything can be accomplished with a little ingenuity- and some dumb luck always helps...
As for the p/s, check and see what the new mobo and cpu call for and go accordingly. I tend to always change it to a newer and APPROVED one to insure compatability. For instance, the Allied 300W power supply sold thru NewEgg
is for P4's and AMD's and is reasonable in cost. The 3.3V supplies 28A, the 5V puts out 30A, and the 12V puts out 15A.

The test continues...

Thanks for the replies. Looks like it's a go. :)
