Fellow Geeks,

In the past two weeks I have had two clients bring me Gateway Essential computers, one an 866 and the other an 1100. Neither had any power what-so-ever so I ordered a new power supply. This did not change anything, still no power. The odds of seeing my first two Gateway Essentials “Dell man myself” with the very same problem within a week of each other would, I think suggest a common thread. I was just wondering if anyone else had seen this occur and what methods were employed to send a working computer back home with its happy family.

Any information on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Shawn

First, it may be a symptom of a common fault on that model, which generally ends in a recall.

I'm assuming ATX. (I don't deal much in prebuilts) If so there will have to be power somewhere. But that is hard to trace down without test equipment. A current meter will show in inrush current when the PS is first connected up.
I generally use an old amprobe with an x10 loop to pick up on the meter twitches. Ed Fair
