Hello,

I am looking for feedback on a scenario my company is looking at for remote offices. We are looking at deploying G450 gateways to remote offices that will tie back to my corporate office in NJ.

I am looking for feedback in terms of queustions that need to be answered with this type of configuration. Pitfalls, points of failure, etc.

Thanks in adavance.

simple answer, it works great as long as you have sufficient bandwidth between sites. I have 17 G450s remote from the 8730 system across the country

we have local circuts feeding each of the sites so we are using location tables to route 911 and local calls

also, keep in mind to use the G450, you must be running CM 5 on your main switch..

One of the things we've run in to is IP Softphone. You can't register IP softphone/agent directly to a G450, which can mess with location settings in some circumstances. For example, we have corporate site A with the CLAN's; site B has a G450. Softphone user near site B using VPN connnectivity (not physically in site B building) will end up pulling LEC dialtone from site A since that's where the CLAN they register to resides. You can get around it if you can dedicate a CLAN at site A to the same Net Reg as site B, or can map the user's IP to that NR, but it's kind of a pain.

One other thing we ran in to was slightly limited announcement capacity. Could be issue if one of your G450 sites has a lot of announcements.

The G450 stores announcement files in an internal announcement directory. The
G450 supports up to 256 announcement files, totalling up to 45 minutes of audio
for announcements and music on hold. If a compact flash is installed with
increased RAM, the G450 supports up to 1024 announcement files, for a total of
240 minutes. A total of 63 announcements can be played simultaneously, and one
port may be used for recording. Recording, storing, and playing announcement
files is controlled by Avaya CM. Also supports VAM and SCP secure file transfer

The G450 supports:

Secure transfer of announcement files to and from VAM using SCP

Simple management operations for the announcement files stored in the
announcement directory

Dynamic allocation of announcement time slots for 64 announcement ports on an
as-needed basis
