The answer may seem obvious to some of you but I was wondering if the two are even comparible. I run a BFG asylum 5900 non-ultra and my friend has a 9700 pro. He has said nothing but garbage about my 5900 but has yet to out benchmark it. I know benchmarks aren't everything but I'm curious as if he's just blowing steam for the system I just built that put his to shame. Now I ran tests on my computer for both cards. After the scores he started on about image quality and how the ati is far better. Did I buy the wrong card or is he just mad at the fact that my card was faster and half the price?

I don't really see a difference. He claims to though. But then again his machine doesn't really match up to mine. Thats why I ran tests on my system. But thats ok. I don't even run them anymore. He's running an atlon xp 2000+ on an ASUS A7V333 with 2x256 pc3000 corsair memory. I'm running an Athlon 2600+ on a MSI KT6 delta lsr with 512mb kingston Hyper X pc4000 memory. Which he still insists his memory is faster because its corsair and that 8x agp is no different performance wise than 4x. He's been into this computer stuff MUCH longer than I have so I really can't defend myself on system comparisons that he always makes. He recommended the FX5900 so that I wouldn't beat his system because he reads nothing but toms hardware and thought the card was a total piece. Which is really sad because hes the only person I get to b.s. with about computers. Thats why I started going through forums.

I use a Hercules 9700Pro in my machine and have been very pleased with it, having always used Nvidia cards before I just wanted to try something different.

A friend has an FX5900 and is also very happy with his card.

The way I see it as long as you are happy with it then you have no problem. Your mate may, but that's no cause for concern ;)

Compare the decibel levels or the fan noise while you are at it. I have not really tried the FX cards or the ATI 9700. However, a lot of people have purchasing the ATI 9700 and lately the 9800 video cards as the card of choice. In DX9 games the ATI cards have been doing a bit better, than the Nvida cards.

A lot of this is preference to Nvida or ATI. There are probably still some motherboards that either run better with Nvida or ATI depending on the motherboard, so that is something to check up on.

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

Please. You have Kingston (one of the top names in the business) HyperX PC4000 (their creme crop) which enables your memory bus to run at speeds up to 500MHz single channel with great stability, while he's still stuck at the standard 333MHz. An overclocker wouldn't be without it. Yes, most motherboards aren't really designed to handle more than 400Mhz single channel right out of the box, but even at 400MHz, you're still running faster! Intense game resolutions and apps that require a lot of memory will benefit no doubt.

No offense, but this guy sounds like a pimple-faced teenager that only cares about stats and benchmarks, rather than real-world comparisons. Even if you took your system to the table and benchmarked the bajoobies out of it, you would have no trouble outdoing his.

Oh yeah, 8x AGP will pay off before you realize it.

Agreed. I'm more of a hands on see it before I believe it type person. To conclude this saga he went and dropped money into an Abit NF-7 with a 2500+ barton (which you might have read about in thread "tbred or barton") which still got shut down. I know my system isn't even close to being one of the fastest but it sure is nice to stick it to someone when they're wrong and won't admit it. He is a real wienie but our true passion is cars. I just got into computers so I could play Warcraft 3. So we see eye to eye on cars not computers.
