Hi All,

I have to do a full restore of a server using BAB 9. The server is running BAB (the backup server with LTO) and SQL + some applications.

My normal proceedure is to use BAB to restore data only, and reinstall applications/os from scratch, but this time i need to perform the complete restore using BAB.

Are there any good guides out there on this?

Regards,

Ronnie

Restore C: first and then restart the system and restore the other drives.

Do you mean install and base OS and BAB installation to C: Drive and then load the tape and restore to C: itself ... the same drive from where the restore is running? (Where the BAB is running from?)

Hi Ronnie,

If this is a Win2000 Member server,do the following....

* Install base OS and install BAB on a different drive.
* Restore C:\ and system state from the tape to the original location
* Reboot the machine and then do a normal restore of the other data drives.

Did you say that this server you are trying to restore has SQL? Were you using the SQL agent??

SQL is a bit different to restore. CA did have some SQL server restore instructions. I believe it was just in the manual under a section called SQL SERVER DISASTER RECOVERY. Anyway, you install SQL. Then you need to restore the MASTER database. That's a little tricky cause it can't be open to restore it, but SQL has to be up, and when SQL's up, the MASTER is open. Fun, huh? So, you have to like start SQL with sqlserver -m -c or something like that. Then restore MASTER, stop & restart SQL, then restore the rest of your databases.

Of course you'll have to re-install any backup agents that you had installed on the original.

If you need more information let me know. I have the document on paper. Good luck.
